Key Milestones of the Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI)
2011 — Establishment and Foundation
MCCI was formally established in January 2011, and registered under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989.
A group of visionary entrepreneurs, industrialists, and professionals came together to form a common platform to promote trade, commerce, and industry in Manipur.
Office set up at Thangal Bazar, Imphal, establishing its presence as the state’s premier chamber of commerce.
2012–2014 — Organizational Structuring & Initial Engagements
Affiliated with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to build national and international linkages.
Began membership expansion by enrolling local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and industry leaders.
Organized its first series of seminars and business workshops to promote entrepreneurship and trade awareness in the state.
Initiated dialogue with state government departments to align with development policies.
2015–2017 — Outreach & Promotion of Local Industries
Focus shifted to promoting Manipur’s handloom, handicrafts, and traditional industries.
Partnered with Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. and Artisans Cooperative Society to showcase local products at international exhibitions, including a landmark event in Mandalay, expanding international exposure for local artisans.
Conducted business networking events connecting entrepreneurs with policymakers and investors.
2018–2020 — Capacity Building & Policy Advocacy
Organized multiple seminars, trade fairs, and business conclaves to build local entrepreneurial capacity.
Strengthened collaboration with state and central government agencies for industrial policy advocacy.
Expanded advisory board with eminent economists, professors, and industry experts from Manipur.
Began formulating sectoral recommendations for trade and infrastructure development
2021–2023 — Strategic Growth & Network Expansion
Despite challenges during the pandemic, MCCI pivoted to digital engagement, hosting online meetings, webinars, and policy dialogues.
Launched initiatives to connect local businesses with national and international trade bodies, broadening commercial linkages.
Increased collaboration with financial institutions and development agencies to support MSMEs and startups.
Initiated discussions on border trade opportunities with Southeast Asia, leveraging Manipur’s strategic location.
